Why You’ll Love Waxing Your Underarms

Want smooth, hair free skin without the razor bumps and cuts that come with shaving your underarms? Want to avoid having to consistently remove your armpit hair every few days? Wish your hair was noticeably less noticeable after each hair removal session?

Worried that this sounds too good to be true?! Well, it’s not! Welcome to the world of underarm waxing – we’re sure you’re going to love the difference.

The benefits of waxing your underarms

On the fence about waxing your underarms? Don’t worry - we’ve been there too. There are actually a number of benefits that come with making the switch over from the razor!

Soft and smooth skin after your appointment

We’re a bit biased here, but we believe that your skin is at its softest and smoothest right after a wax. Shaving cuts the hair strands right above the epidermis, sometimes leaving a bit of roughness. Waxing leaves nothing but silky smooth underarms!

Unlike shaving, waxing is quick and convenient

It’s easy to assume waxing hair takes a long time. Between the melting of the wax, the strategic, yet skillful application, and intentional removal of the hard wax, you’d probably think it was an hour long process. Thankfully, the underarm wax process probably takes a total of five to 8 minutes to complete before you’re off and ready to jump right back into your day.

Waxing removes hair at the root, guaranteeing long lasting results

In addition to being a quick process, the time you’re left with smooth, hair free skin is significantly longer. Because the waxing process removes hair growth directly from the root and not just at the surface of the skin, two to three weeks will go by before any hair regrowth and another waxing appointment is needed.

How to get ready for an underarm waxing appointment

Underarm Waxing

Thankfully, the process of getting ready for a waxing appointment is almost just as easy as the wax appointment itself. For best results, and to avoid ingrown hairs, follow these suggestions:

Lightly exfoliate to make process even easier

Exfoliating is great, but never go overboard! 24 hours before your wax, gently exfoliate your skin to ensure that your underarm waxing appointment goes as smoothly as possible. When you exfoliate, layers of dead skin are removed so that the wax will better adhere directly to each strand of unwanted hair.

Skip the caffeine and alcohol before the appointment

While enjoying a warm cup of coffee, or sipping an alcoholic beverage could be a centerpiece of your “self care” day, it’s important to try and avoid it prior to your appointment. Unfortunately, both alcohol and coffee could make the waxing process a bit more sensitive and uncomfortable.

Don’t swim or tan the day before

Prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals (such as chlorine), or UV rays can interfere with your skin's health. The likelihood of skin irritation or other negative side effects is increased when the skin is exposed to these factors within 24 hours of the appointment.

Deodorant can be put on hold

While applying deodorant may be a daily habit, you can go ahead and skip it the day of your waxing session. Most deodorants will leave a residue that can interfere with the wax’s ability to do its job as well as it could. Instead, avoid deodorant altogether, or try to wash it off before your appointment.

The underarm aftercare routine to make results last

Last on our list is the post wax aftercare routine associated with underarm waxing. Here at The Wax Room, we want you to be confident about how your skin looks long after you leave the studio.

Try to avoid sun for a day

The same rules in preparation for your wax should also be followed after your waxing appointment. Since your skin is no longer protected by hair and layers of dead skin cells, the first 24 hours should consist of as little sunlight exposure as possible.

Physical activity can irritate the area so have a rest day

Friction and increased physical activity can cause unnecessary irritation to the skin, resulting in bumps and discoloration. Avoid these side effects by limiting sweating and high energy activities for at least two days following your appointment.

Talk to your waxing specialist about any problems you may run into

Those with sensitive skin can be prone to unexpected irritation regardless of what they do to prepare for or care for their wax. If this is the case, speak with your wax technician for helpful recommendations.
