Brazilian Wax Aftercare: Nourish Your Skin

Can we talk about the post Brazilian wax glow? It’s an all over feeling of radiance and a little sass that we carry with us from the moment we exit the studio. It’s sheer confidence and overall smoothness that leaves us feeling refreshed and renewed.

If you’re curious about how to keep your skin nourished after a Brazilian wax appointment, we’re here to help.

Before your Brazilian wax appointment

If this is your first hair removal via Brazilian wax, don’t even sweat it. And even if you’re a seasoned veteran, there’s a few key tips to help you get the most bang for your buck and your time.

Grow that hair out

The prickly cactus feeling where your smooth leg used to be is a rite of passage. In fact, letting your hair complete a full growth cycle is an important function of your body. Allowing your body hair to grow out to a quarter inch before going to your next wax appointment gives your body its best shot to have those hair follicles be pulled directly from the root.

Exfoliate a day or two before your wax

You deserve flowers, and you also deserve rest. Creating a little self-care time could be as simple as drying a bath after dinner. If you wait until around 24 to 48 hours prior to your wax appointment, you’ll have the perfect sweet spot for a gentle exfoliation.

Take a painkiller 30 minutes before if you’re worried

We could sit here and tell you that your Brazilian will be a walk in the park pain-wise. And while we believe that’s true, we also understand that everyone’s pain tolerance is different. The general consensus is that it’s quick and painless, and that there are little to no side effects. But, if you’re worried about your pain tolerance, it’s totally okay to take a Tylenol or ibuprofen before your appointment. If you take it about 30 minutes prior, you should be in great shape by the time you’re ready for your esthetician to get started.

During your Brazilian wax session

During your Brazilian wax session, it’s important to keep an open dialogue with your esthetician. There’s a few key considerations to keep in mind to ensure you have the best possible experience, and results from your time at The Wax Room.

Go to a licensed, professional esthetician

First things first. You’ll want to make sure that you connect with a licensed, professional esthetician who has a few years of experience under their belt. The last thing you want is going to a friend's house to get waxed and leaving with an injury or burn.

Keep an open line of communication with your wax specialist

So, we know that this is the hardest piece of advice because of how difficult it is to ask for help when we need it. But keeping an open line of communication with your esthetician helps both parties stay safe, comfortable and ensure a healthy healing process.

Proper after-wax care to promote healthy skin

Your post-wax routine might look similar to the aftermath of a terrible sunburn. And post hard wax aftercare is still an active part of the entire process. In fact, it’s probably the most under-looked process, which is tricky, as it’s required to ensure proper healing and best results.

Things to avoid in the first days after your Brazilian wax

Outside of science class, fungi and creepy crawlies still exist. The flush new coat of skin you’re rocking post-wax is more susceptible to very specific bacteria. Sweat, friction and extreme heat will make matters worse.

Keep your skin moisturized and hydrated

We’re living in the era of carrying our water bottles and sacrificing nothing to stay at the appropriate water to organs ratio. One of the worst things you can do is show up to your appointment dehydrated. When you’re dehydrated, your body's ability to hold moisture is abysmal. By staying hydrated, you give your skin the opportunity to flourish, even when sun-kissed.

Exfoliate two days after your wax

Just like prior to your appointment, exfoliating after waxing is the key to the softest, smoothest skin. We’re talking light and gentle, bright and soft. Just enough to prevent ingrown hairs but enough to shed off some of that remaining dead skin.
